The beach at El Rompido is one of the best in Andalucia. El Rompido itself is a fishing village 8 km from the town of Cartaya, and is one of the most tranquil spots on Huelva's Costa de la Luz. It sits on the Río Piedras river estuary, a stretch of navigable water sheltered from the open sea by a spit, known as the Flecha del Rompido.

The Piedras river has coastal pine woods, sand dunes and tidal creeks along its banks which make make up the protected reserve called the Paraje Natural Marismas del Río Piedras y Flecha del Rompido. With its wide variety of habitats it has a rich array of plants and birds.

In the village there are a bars and several fish restaurants situated on the waterfront, from where you can enjoy some marvellous views across the 300m-wide estuary. For the golfers amongst you the course at Nuevo Portil is just a short drive (5 minutes).
